Biographical Notes

Fr T.J. Linane, From Abel to Zundolovich, Vol. 2: Biographies of Priests on the Australian Scene up to 1900, 1980, p 17:

Campbell, John, Very Rev., Irish
Holbrook Pastor for Many Years

Holbrook, or Germanton as it was known in earlier times, was the scene of labour for John Campbell for over 30 years. The All Hallows Records tell that he was born in March 1839 [sic] at Termonamongan, Diocese of Derry, County Tyrone. His parents were John and Catherine Meehan. Education was received at St. Mary's, Dundalk, and at All Hallows where he was ordained 24 June 1888. Among the early stations of service were: Tumut (1892), Young (1897), Junee (1898), Wagga (1899). He appears to have come to Germanton at the turn of the century and there lived and laboured until his death on 5 May 1932. Age: 72.
