Biographical Notes

Fr T.J. Linane, From Abel to Zundolovich, Vol. 2: Biographies of Priests on the Australian Scene up to 1900, 1980, p 93:

Couloigner, Henry Joseph, Very Rev., S.M., French
A Brief Stay in Sydney

He must have received the "Very Rev." title by being a Superior in France. On the 1886 list of priests at Villa Maria, Hunters Hill his name appears as an assistant to Fr. Pierre Jules Joly. Fr. Hosie's list of Marists indicates that he was born in the Nantes Diocese on 10 September 1839. He received his Marist profession on 23 June 1862 and priesthood on 25 February 1864. Apparently he worked for the first twenty years in France and left to come to Australia in 1885. The four year stay was at Villa Maria, and the last tracing to be found shows that he was present at the opening of St. Patrick's College, Manly, on 23 January 1889. Death details reveal that he died on 20 March 1897 at Verdelais, France. The age therefore was 57.
