In the early hours of Saturday morning Bishop Robert McGuckin was advised by Bishop Alan McGuckian, Bishop of Raphoe, Ireland, that Fr James Byrne died suddenly on Friday, Irish time.

Fr Byrne had concelebrated Mass in Stranorlar in the morning with Fr Keiran McAteer the Parish Priest. Fr McAteer said he was going to the doctor after Mass and on his way from the doctor’s surgery he collapsed and died soon after.

It is expected that a post-mortem examination will be carried out in the coming days. Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced. Please remember Fr Byrne at Mass and in your prayers.

Update on local Memorial Mass and streaming of Funeral Mass for Father James Byrne, Pastor Emeritus of Sacred Heart Parish, Wilsonton.
Fr Byrne died suddenly on Friday 11 December 2020 in Ireland.
Beloved son of the late Pierce Anthony and Maureen, dearly loved brother of Ann, Patrick, Redmond, Mary Frances and Denis.
Fr Byrne’s remains will be reposing in the Church of Mary Immaculate, Stranorlar on Monday (December 14th) from 6 p.m. with Rosary at 9 p.m.
Requiem Mass on Tuesday (December 15th) at 11 a.m.
Interment afterwards in Drumboe Cemetery.

Robert McGuckin, his brother priests in the Diocese of Toowoomba and Raphoe, by the parishioners of Stranorlar and Glenfin, neighbours and many friends.
In compliance with current Government Restrictions, the Funeral will be Private to close friends.
