Biographical Notes

Fr Denis W. Martin, Priests of 1928, Brisbane, 2003, p 174:
Bryan Carmichael

Ordained just a little over 12 months before this photo was taken, Bryan Carmichael and Victor Roberts were the 'newest' priests.

Bryan Joseph Carmichael, having been born in Brisbane in 1903, went to school at St James's and Gregory Terrace, before leaving for Springwood and Manly. He was ordained at St Patrick's College, Manly, in December of 1926.

He moved quickly up the ladder from appointments at Bowen Hills, Red Hill, Ipswich and General Hospital Chaplain to become the first Parish Priest of Mitchelton in 1932. In 1947 he took up his last appointment, Corinda, for 16 years.

He is remembered as having been a quiet hard working priest who was then forced to slow down as the result of an accident which had left him with a blood clot.

Bryan Carmichael died on 15th August 1963. Archbishop Duhig presided and preached at the Requiem Mass at the Cathedral and the funeral proceeded to Nudgee.

Fr Carmichael was an uncle of Fr Paul Rooney.
