Curr, Henry Bonaventure, O.S.B., Australian
Tasmanian Born Benedictine
Correspondence about this priest has already been published in Footprints, coming from the researcher of Benedictine personalities, Sister M. Gregory O.S.B., Pennant Hills. It can be taken for granted from the correspondence that Sister has had with Mrs. Sholte Douglas, great-grandaughter of the Tasmanian pioneer, Edward Curr of the V.D.L. Company, that Henry Bonaventure was the fourth son of John Curr, who was a brother of Edward. Several of the Curr families were sent to Stoneyhurst (a Jesuit College) to study and it's presumed that H.B. was such a one. There is no record of his being educated at Lyndhurst. A 'George Bonaventure' joined the Benedictines at Mount St. Bernard's Abbey , Leicestershire, and it's supposed that G.B. and H.B. are identical. From 1876 onwards Henry Bonaventure appears consistently on Directory lists as Chaplain at Subiaco Convent. When that institution was sold to get away from the hustle and bustle of suburbanism and industrialism, the remains of priests and religious who were buried there were transferred apparently to the nearby North Rocks Cemetery (A statement subject to correction!). Father Curr died at Subiaco Convent on 7 June 1888.
