Biographical Notes

T.W. Campbell, The Priests of the Diocese of Armidale: A Necrology, Braddon ACT, 2005:
Watson, Robert

Born in Armidale on 8 July 1910. Educated at De La Salle College, Armidale. After completing his schooling he was employed for some years by the NSW Railways Department. He studied at St Columba's College, Springwood, and St Patrick's College Manly, and was ordained on 25 July 1944 in Armidale by Bishop John Coleman with John McKean and Len Henry. He served as assistant priest in Tamworth, Inverell, Narrabri and Gunnedah. In 1953 he was appointed as parish priest Emmaville, moving to Ashford in 1958. In 1963 he was appointed as chaplain at Nazareth House, Tamworth, and then was appointed as the first parish priest of Oxley Vale, a parish based on the north western outskirts of Tamworth, in 1967 (the parish later was reabsorbed into the Tamworth parish). He remained in that position until August 1972 when he retired. He died on 8 September 1984, and was buried in the Armidale cemetery. He had a keen interest in photography and woodwork as hobbies.
