Fr Isidore Bochetazz, d. 1888
Fiji
He was born in Haute-Savoie, France in 1825. He was a diocesan priest before being professed a Marist in 1856. He left the following year for Oceania, aged 32. He spent short periods in Samoa, then teaching in the seminary at Clydesdale near Sydney and in New Zealand, before going to the Mission in Fiji. There he founded the Mission at Wairiki on Taveuni in 1864 and continued to build up a Catholic community there for 12 years. Ill health forced him to go to Sydney. On his return he worked at Rewa, before going to Levuka, where he died at the age of 63.
