Biographical Notes

Fr T.J. Linane, From Abel to Zundolovich, Vol. 1, 1979, p 30:

Boyle, Anthony, Very Rev., CM, Golden Jubilarian
Founder of Vincentian Province in Australia

b. County Derry in May 1845; ed. at Cambrai, Fr. and ord. as a secular in '70. No record on hand as to when he joined the Vincentians. Arr. Nov. '85 in Cardinal Moran's party, living first at St. Mary's Cathedral until taking up the charge at Balmain East. Here he directed parish affairs from '87 to '93 as well as directing a mission staff that gave splendid missions in all States and in N.Z. If not the pioneer at the new Ashfield House he was at least part of the pioneering task force that has endured. Returning to Ireland he was Spiritual Director to the Maynooth students for 11 years. Later service was given at St. Vincent's House in Cork and at St. Joseph's Blackrock, where he died on 6.8.1926 at the age of 81. The funeral of the venerable Australian pioneer took place from St. Peter's Phibsborough, and burial in Glasnevin Cemetery.
