Biographical Notes

Funeral brochure:
Fr Martin Andrew Doyle was born on 1 February 1929 in Innisfail, Queensland and was one of four surviving children born to Ellen Fitzgerald and Hugh Mahon Doyle.
Fr Martin attended St Cecilia's Primary in Hamilton, St Columban's Christian Brothers' College, Albion and St Joseph's College, Nudgee. He studied at Pius XII Provincial Seminary. He was the last surviving member of the Ordination class of 1953, which came to be revered for its quality and included fellow esteemed Priests such as Fr Tom Boland and Fr Owen Oxenham.
His first appointment in the Brisbane Archdiocese was as Assistant Priest in the Annerley Parish from 8 December 1953 to 31 December 1961. He later served as Administrator at St Kevin's Geebung (January 1962 - April 1963) then briefly as Greenslopes Hospital Chaplain. He was appointed Parish Priest to St Flannan's Zillmere in September 1963 until 2 January 1977. During this appointment he became Judge of the Regional Marriage Tribunal (January 1974 to January 1980). In January 1977, Fr Marty was then appointed Parish Priest to the Infant Saviour Parish Burleigh Heads where he worked tirelessly up until 31 December 1993.
Throughout these appointments Fr Martin was Dean of the South Coast Deanery for various periods dating from 1984 to 1993. His retirement followed on 31 December 1993.
In his retirement he was cared for by his cousin Carmel Webb at Holland Park for some years then moved to Camp Hill where he lived in an independent unit with his brother Priests as neighbours enjoying their friendship and company. Although he outlived all his immediate family a number of nieces and nephews were still very much involved in his life up until the end.
Fr Doyle suffered a short illness dying peacefully in St Vincent's on Sunday 3 November.
He will be remembered as a great pastor and gentle Priest.
