[...] Still another of the early arrivals in New Zealand was the Rev. Father John Forest, S.M., who was born in France in 1814 and arrived in Now Zealand in May, 1842. He came to Wellington from Auckland in 1850 and founded a mission in the Hutt, where he was responsible for the erection of the first Catholic church. Later he served at Meeanee and Napier. He celebrated his golden jubilee of priesthood in 1880 and died at Napier four years later. [...]
