The Rev. Thos. Long, Freeman's Journal, Sydney, 13 August 1892, p 14, http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article111320723:

Our good-hearted and devoted pastor (writes a Petersham correspondent) is leaving us amidst the affectionate regrets of the whole district. Fr. Long's health has been failing of late, and now under medical advice the devoted priest is going for a trip to Europe and his native land, Ireland. It is needless to state he has done an immense amount of work during the last eight years for the parish. His zeal and energy in the building of our pretty church speaks for itself, his great sympathy with the poor is beyond praise; in fact the whole district is sorry to lose him. At a hurriedly arranged meeting of St. Thomas's parishioners on Sunday last it was decided to present the worthy priest with a purse of sovereigns. A number of subscriptions were handed in. The following gentlemen were present at the meeting:— [...] Another meeting will be held on Sunday afternoon.
