Butler, Richard, Very Rev., D.C., Irish
First Pastor in Cootamundra, 1881
b. 1846; ed. CW; ord. '73. A relative of Bp. Wm. Lanigan of Goulburn who came to serve in that diocese. Like the other Lanigan relatives who came to Goul. he was born in Co. Tipperary, prob. in the vicinity of Templetouhy. Served first at Tumut. First Pastor of Cootamundra '81. In ['87] he became a Irremovable Rector (R.I.) - a status abolished since Vatican II. In '10 Richard was transferred to Tumut where he died in April 1913; age 66. Burial: Cootamundra.
