The Very Rev. Dean O'Farrell, Parish Priest of Coonamble, died on Sunday, at the Presbytery, Coonamble, aged 82, after an illness of about two years.
A public holiday was declared by the Coonamble Council as a mark of respect to the late parish priest, and the funeral at which all sections of the community were presented, was regarded as the largest ever seen in the town.
His Lordship, the Bishop of Bathurst, Most Rev. John Norton, presided at the Solemn Requiem Mass at which 24 priests were present from the Bathurst, Wilcannia-Forbes and Armidale dioceses. He was assisted by Monsignor O'Donnell, of Dubbo, and Dean Sexton, of Nyngan. The Celebrant of the Mass was Father Eviston, of Molong.
