Notices to Correspondents, The Irish Harp and Farmers' Herald, Adelaide, 10 February 1872, p 4, http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article224364814:

J. O'B. — The Father Murphy about whom you enquire was a Franciscan. He only remained in the diocese for a few weeks, and was dismissed by Dr. Shiel. Father O'Rourke, O.S.F., did offer himself to Dean Farrell as a volunteer for Protestantism. The Dean however, very wisely would have nothing to do with him, and ordered him to leave his house. Father Keating belonged to the Franciscan Order. He was dismissed from the diocese by the late Vicar-General during Dr. Shiel's absence. He lived in the Kapunda district, where it was intended to build a Franciscan monastery. The reasons for which he was dismissed by Father Smyth are well known, but we prefer not to mention them here. Father Horan belongs to the same order. We believe he is still attached to the Kapunda mission. For the rest consult an experienced theologian or a work on theology. It is better to keep such matters private for the present. Of course solemn vows bind for life, and the infringement of such laws is rendered much more culpable by the fact of the person being in orders.
