District Notes, Shepparton Advertiser, 9 March 1897, p 3, http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article269099692:

A well-attended meeting was held in the Dookie North R.C. schoolroom to make arrangements for the annual sports in aid of the school funds. The parish priest, Father Hogan, occupied the chair, and Father McCormack was also present. After due consideration it was decided to hold the sports on Easter Monday as usual, and a liberal and lengthy programme of events was drawn up. In the evening a grand ball will be held. Mr Andrew McGarry was re-elected honorary secretary.

Death of Father McCormack, Shepparton Advertiser, 24 May 1898, p 2, http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article269971757:

It is with extreme regret that we have to chronicle the death of the Rev. Father McCormack, which took place yesterday morning, shortly after midnight, at the Presbytery, Dookie, where he had for the past three years been stationed, as curate to the Rev. Father Hogan. [...] He was treated with the greatest consideration and kindness by his parish priest, the Rev. Father Hogan, who regarded him as an invalid brother and would not permit him to undertake any fatiguing duty, no matter how willing might be the spirit of the sufferer, and provided him with the best of medical advice and nourishment. Death, Numurkah Leader, 26 May 1898, p 4, http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article186397033:

The Rev. Wm. McCormack, Roman Catholic clergyman, died at the early age of 27 years at the Dookie Presbytery on Monday morning. For the past three years the deceased clergyman had occupied the position of curate in the Dookie parish of the Bendigo diocese, under the pastorate of the Rev. Father Hogan. [...]

Presentation to Father Hogan, Shepparton Advertiser, 28 June 1898, p 2, http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article269973045:

At the close of the solemn service that had been celebrated, the clergymen who were present retired to the Presbytery, where a presentation was made to the Rev. Father Hogan, in recognition of the devoted and attentive manner in which he had waited upon his late curate during a very lengthy and trying illness.

The presentation, a purse containing 100 sovereigns—was made by the Rev. Father McCarthy, on behalf of the priests of the diocese of Sandhurst. The rev. gentleman, in making the presentation, referred to the kindness, consideration and attention that had been extended by Father Hogan to his late assistant. He felt quite certain that Father Hogan was not aware that his self-sacrificing acts of kindness and consideration towards the late Father McCormack were noticed. Such, however, was the case, and the whole of the clergymen in the extensive diocese felt proud to think that one of their suffering brethren in his affliction had received such kindly treatment. As treasurer of the movement to mark their appreciation of Father Hogan’s action, he (Father McCarthy) referred to the spontaneous outburst of feeling, in tangible form, of all the Curates and most of the Pastors of the diocese, and he was pleased indeed to make the presentation of a purse containing 100 sovereigns.

The Very Rev. Dr Barry said that he had had a long and close acquaintance with Father Hogan and he knew that his treatment of the late Father McCormack was but a reflex of his kind-hearted, generous and extremely charitable disposition.

The Rev. J. F. Gaffey, as secretary to the movement, said that the spontaneity of the subscriptions was eloquent testimony of the appreciation of Father Hogan’s treatment of a brother Priest in affliction.

The Rev. Father Hogan suitably thanked the reverend assemblage. He recognised that he had done no more than his bare duty in the matter; but it was gratifying, notwithstanding, to know that his actions had met with the approval of those qualified to speak.—Numurkah "Standard."

Death of Right Rev. Mgr. Hogan, P.P., V.G. Parish Priest of Shepparton, Advocate, Melbourne, 20 May 1937, p 16, http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article171929536:

We regret to announce the death after a short illness of the Right Rev. Mgr. Denis Hogan, P.P., V.G., parish priest of Shepparton. Although in indifferent health for some time, his passing was sudden and came as a shock to his parishioners and the priests of the diocese of Sandhurst. Mgr. Hogan was born in Ireland in 1863, and ordained at St. John's College, Waterford, in 1886. He came to Bendigo in 1895, and was parish priest in turn of Dookie, Chiltern and Shepparton. He was Vicar-General of the diocese since 1931, and was created a domestic prelate by his Holiness the Pope in 1930. The golden jubilee of his priesthood was celebrated last year. Solemn Requiem Mass for the repose of his soul will be celebrated by the Very Rev. Richard Kelly, Administrator, at St. Brendan's Church, Shepparton, to-day, at 10.30 a.m. His Lordship the Bishop of Sandhurst (Most Rev. John McCarthy, D.D.) will preside.
