Corcoran, Thomas Vincent, OSA, Irish
Death in Cairns at an Early Age

Another Corcoran from the same town of Fethard; more correctly from nearby Graigue. The parents were William and Marianne (Burke). The year of birth: 1864 (circa). He was received into the Augustinians at the Orlagh House on 29 October 1887, making a temporary Profession on 11 November 1888 and his Solemn Profession on 13 November 1891 (APH: Archives of "Provinciae Hiberniae", Ballyboden). In 1893 he came to the Vicariate of Cooktown, joining fellow Augustinians, Bishop John Hutchinson (residing at Cooktown) and Fathers Maher and Knowles (residing at Cairns). Directories from 1895 to 1901 indicate that Thomas Vincent was in Cairns during the whole period of his Queensland sojourn — short as it was. Circumstances of his early death on 5 December 1901 are not recorded and the only other details are burial at Cairns and the age: 37.
