Kehoe, William J

Born Blessington, Co Wicklow, Ireland, in 1911. Educated at Christian Brothers' School, Synge Street, Dublin 1920-1929. He entered the Society of St Columba (the Columban Fathers) and studied at the Society's seminary at Dalgan, Ireland, from 1929. He was ordained in 1935 (exact date unknown). He was then posted to Burma. During the Japanese occupation of Burma he, with another Columban priest trekked into China and India, accompanied by a large number of refugees. In 1949 he was assigned to Australia for reasons of health, and spent some time (1952-1953) attached to the Armidale diocese, at Uralla and Quirindi. He then returned to the Columban Fathers' Australian headquarters and became editor of the Columban missionary journal The Far East for eleven years. In 1971 he was sent to St Columban's, Nebraska, USA where he worked in the Society's General Mission Office. He next returned to Ireland in 1974, when appointed Secretary to the Society's Central Administration. He died on 1 December 1979, and is buried in the Columban cemetery, Dalgan, Ireland.
