Together with Father Manuel Carracedo, Enedaguila developed a programme of evangelisation for the Spanish community by preparing and educating a group of lay leaders. Another pastoral programme, the Catholic Spanish Mission, was created to further develop the mission to the Spanish communities. The Peregrino, a Spanish bulletin commenced in 1983, and Mass attendance over weekends grew. In 1998 a special house was purchased for the communities with its own chapel. This was Enedaguila's ministerial life, living at Loyola House, Mount Druitt and working in Fairfield, from 1992. In 2017, his health declining, he retired to aged care at the Rosary Village, Yennora, until 23 February 2018, and finally to Residential Gardens for Spanish Speaking Frail Aged, Rooty Hill. He is remembered for his dedication over 42 years to the Spanish communities of Sydney, working with love and commitment, never taking a holiday. (Reproduced by permission of Fr David Strong SJ.) |
