Foran, Michael

The date and place of his birth unknown. Details of education unknown. Place of study unknown. It is known that he sailed from London on 10 October 1870 on Glendower, and arrived in Sydney in February 1871. He was in Maitland immediately afterwards, completed his studies and was ordained in Maitland in 1871. He was then appointed to the staff of St Stanislaus College, Bathurst, where he remained for a time, next appearing in Newcastle, where he was reported as having devoted himself to intemperance and mixed marriages. He then transferred to Branxton (1876-1883). It appears he may have spent some time in a northern part of the diocese in 1877 in areas within the current Armidale diocesan boundaries. His next appointment was to Murrurundi (1883-1885) and finally Singleton (1885). He took an overseas holiday in Europe for much of 1881 and 1882. He died in Singleton on 24 September 1893 and is buried in Singleton.
