Tom was ordained in Toowoomba on 8th December, 1929, by Bishop James Byrne - another of the first five ordained for the Diocese. His first appointment was at Stanthorpe in 1930, followed by Roma 1930-40. He was the Parish Priest at both St George (1940-49) and Goondiwindi (1949-60). In both centres he conducted the sheep dog trials that made his name a byword in show arenas in country Queensland and NSW - he became nationally famous for this and used some of these events to raise funds for church purposes. Up to the time of his death, he was President of the Queensland Sheep Dog Trial Association. For the last eight years of his life he was the Parish Priest of Allora. He died in the Allora Community Hospital after suffering his third coronary attack. He is buried in the Toowoomba/Drayton Cemetery. He had a very outgoing character and was very popular with the people. He also worked very hard for civic purposes in the parishes in which he was stationed.
