Two Priests Ordained at Church of the Apostles, Examiner, Launceston, 29 July 1946, p 4, http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article96475922:

Revs. Bernard Reed and Anselm Stonor, O.F.M., were ordained to the priesthood by the Archbishop of Hobart (Most Rev. E. V. Tweedy, D.D.) at the 10.30 o'clock Mass at the Church of the Apostles, Launceston, yesterday morning.

Last priest ordained in Launceston, prior to yesterday, was Fr. A. Benneworth in 1939.

A huge congregation — the largest seen at the Church of the Apostles in recent years — witnessed the colourful and impressive ordination ceremony.

Chaplains to the Archbishop were Very Rev. Dean W. A. Upton and Rev. Fr. A. A. Aufinger. S.V.D. Rev. Frs. V. Shelverton (Fr. Reed) and Ambrose Ryan, O.F.M. (Fr. Stonor), assisted the newly ordained priests.

Rev. Fr. J. C. Wallis was master of ceremonies.

Other priests present were Rev. Frs. G. Cullen (Invermay), Lee Archer (Latrobe) and P. Hansen (Church of the Apostles).

During the mass and ordination ceremony the choir rendered the hymn "Veni Creator Spiritus."

First Blessings
After being ordained Fr. Reed gave his first blessing to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Reed, of Bourke St., Launceston. Fr. Stonor gave his to his mother, Mrs. Stonor, of Lindisfarne, and his two sisters, Misses May and Dorothy Stonor.

After the 10.30 mass the two newly ordained priests and their relatives and friends were entertained to luncheon in the Home Science School by the Sisters of the Presentation Convent.

Each priest celebrated his first benediction yesterday afternoon, Fr. Stonor being at Invermay at 3 o'clock and Fr. Reed at St. Thomas More's Church, Newstead, at 3.30.

Last evening they celebrated solemn benediction at the Church of the Apostles, Fr. Reed being assisted by Fr. Lee Archer and Fr. Stonor by Fr. Shelverton.

Fr. Reed will say his first mass at the Church of the Apostles at 7 o'clock this morning, and Fr. Stonor will be at Rosary House, residence of the Home Missionary Sisters of Our Lady. Fr. Lee Archer will assist Fr. Reed in his first mass, and Fr. Wallis will assist Fr. Stonor.

Fr. Reed, who is Launceston born, will be attached to the Archdiocese of Hobart. Fr. Stonor, who is a member of the Franciscan Order, will engage in missionary work probably oversea.
