Kelly, Francis Ignatius

Date and place of birth unknown. Details of education unknown. Where he studied unknown [Melbourne]. Date and place of ordination unknown [Melbourne]. Formerly a member of the Pallotine order he came to the diocese in 1955, when he was appointed as assistant priest East Tamworth. He was then at West Tamworth, Mungindi, Armidale and finally was parish priest Bundarra. He took an interest in Aborigines, a special work of the Pallotine order in Australia, centred in north western Australia. While based in Armidale he moved the former Hillgrove church to Armidale with the approval of Bishop E J Doody (qv) for use as a residence for an Aboriginal family. He subsequently left the active ministry while at Bundarra, married and lived in Tasmania. He died in Tasmania. Date of death unknown, but probably 11 November 1976. He was buried in Armidale cemetery.
