Biographical Notes

Prayer Calendar: Deceased Priests who have ministered the Catholic Faith throughout Toowoomba and districts, 1864–2025, Compiled by Annie Carrett, Diocesan Archivist, 2001, Updated by Gabrielle Saide, Diocesan Archivist, 2023:
Rev Francis William (Frank) Donovan, died 4 Sep 1983

Frank was born in Toowoomba on 12th November 1907, to John and Lucy Donovan (nee Bishop). The family lived around the Cabarlah district and he attended the State schools at Kleinton and Highfields and later at St Joseph's Gregory Terrace. He completed his Seminary training at St Patrick's, Manly, and was ordained from Toowoomba, on 30th November 1931. His first appointment was as Assistant to the Toowoomba Parish and as Chaplain to the Hospitals. In 1932 he went to Goondiwindi, which was followed by Charleville (1934-36); The Cathedral (1936); Christchurch, NZ (1936-38); The Cathedral, Toowoomba (1938); Quilpie (1938-40) and Cunnamulla (1940-46). He left the Priesthood in 1946 and went to live in Brisbane – possibly at Mt Gravatt. He became a marvellous parishioner and died in Brisbane.
