Salvador, Di Mathiah

Date and place of birth unknown. Details of education unknown. Date and place of ordination unknown. He reputedly had received medical training at some time in Italy, whether before or after seminary training unknown. He is mentioned in Foley and in Doody as being a member of the Capuchin Order, but there are no records of him as a Capuchin in European provinces, and he was never mentioned by Bishop Elzear Torreggiani as a Capuchin or former Capuchin, as he did with Marianus Bambini. He was reported as being at Ballarat in June 1881. He was appointed as assistant priest Glen Innes in August 1881, and transferred some months later to lnverell. In mid 1882 he was again transferred, this time to Bingara as the first resident priest, and where he built the first presbytery. He remained there until May 1884 when he moved to Emmaville, until the end of 1886. In late 1884 he also regularly travelled for a short period to Glen Innes to provide services in that town while no priest was resident. He was next assigned to Quirindi, commencing it as a parish, and remained there until March 1892 when replaced. He then undertook a trip to the United States of America to explore the introduction of typewriters to Catholic schools. It seems he then left the diocese and went to Lyttelton in New Zealand, following which he returned to Italy. He died around 1901 in Marseilles, France. Exact date of death unknown. Place of burial unknown [Marseilles).
