The Late Rev. Father J. O'Connor. Months Mind at Walcha. His Lordship Dr. Coleman's Fine Tribute, Catholic Freeman's Journal, Sydney, 21 March 1940, p 28, http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article146097977:

On Saturday, February 3, at St. Joseph's Home, Morrisett, the death occurred of Very Rev. Father John O'Connor, late parish priest of Walcha. His Lordship Dr. Coleman, Bishop of Armidale, accompanied by several priests of the diocese, journeyed to Morrisett and were present at his obsequies on Monday, February 5.

The late priest was born at Listowel, Co. Kerry, Ireland, 70 years ago. He was educated at St. Brendan's College, Killarney, and later pursued his ecclesiastical studies at St. John's Seminary, Waterford, where he was ordained to the priesthood. After his ordination he voyaged to Australia and commenced his missionary work in the diocese of Armidale in 1894. He was stationed at Armidale as Assistant, later being sent to Quirindi in a similar capacity. Some few years later he was in charge of Moree Parish, in those days a most extensive district. In 1904 he took up residence at Walcha and faithfully administered his duties there for 33 years, during which time churches were erected at Walcha Road and Glen Morrison, and the Convent and school were established in Walcha. Owing to infirmity he relinquished his parochial duties in 1937, and retired to St. Joseph's Convalescent Home where he experienced indifferent health until finally he was overcome by death as stated above.
