Date Published: Saturday 16th November 2019 Date of Death: Friday 15th November 2019 --- Fr William Hannon 1924 - 2019 RIP, Gymea, Gymea Bay Photos, Facebook post, 19 November 2009: I heard the sad news this morning of the passing of Fr Bill Hannon, Parish Priest at St Catherine's Gymea from 1979 to 2004. He was a kind and gentle man with a great sense of humour , often at our home for dinner or a chat. Photos here are from my First Holy Communion in 1969 and at our home with my late mum in the 1980s. This is the report sent to me from my parish priest: It is with sadness that I advise of the death of Fr William Hannon who died peacefully on Friday, 15 November while in care in Ireland. He was aged 95 years. Fr Hannon was born in Ireland in 1924 attending the St Patrick’s College and Seminary at Carlow before being ordained to the Priesthood on 4 June 1950. Following his ordination Fr Hannon travelled to Australia where he served as Assistant Priest in Mascot, Tempe, Surry Hills, South Hurstville, Arncliffe, St Mary’s Western Line, Revesby and Neutral Bay Parishes. He was appointed Administrator of Camperdown Parish in 1968 and subsequently administered in the Parishes of Maroubra, Gymea, Manly and Katoomba before being appointed Parish Priest of Katoomba Parish in 1970. He remained at Katoomba until December 1979 and was then appointed Parish Priest of Gymea Parish where he remained until his retirement in June 2004. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St Catherine Laboure Church, 123 Gymea Bay Road, Gymea on Saturday, 23 November at 11.00am. All are welcome. |
