Chaplain dies, aged 91, Catholic Leader, Brisbane, 8 May 2008, p 5:

A Brisbane archdiocesan priest for more than 66 years, has died at the age of 91.

Fr Bill Henry (pictured) passed away at Eventide nursing home in Brighton, on Brisbane’s northside, on Anzac Day, April 25.

Fr Henry was ordained in St Stephen’s Cathedral on December 8, 1938 and was an army chaplain during the Second World War, serving from 1942-46 in Papua New Guinea and Bougainville with the 15th Battalion of the Australian Military Force, attached to the 29th Brigade.

He also ministered in Wooloowin (1939-42), Rosalie (1946-52), Greenslopes (1952- 61) and Laidley (1961-90) parishes before retiring to Clontarf, north of Brisbane, where he lived until moving to Eventide about six years ago.

Archbishop John Bathersby of Brisbane celebrated Fr Henry’s funeral Mass at St Stephen’s Cathedral on April 29.

Archbishop Bathersby said Fr Henry was “a lovely gentle priest whose ministry touched the lives of a multitude of people for the better”.
