Catholic. Retreat at Villa Maria, Freeman's Journal, Sydney, 18 September 1880, p 14, http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article133487122:

On Saturday, 4th inst., his Lordship the Right Rev. Dr. Torregiani, Bishop of Armidale, and most of the clergymen officiating in his diocese, who had come to Sydney some days previously, retired to the fine ecclesiastical establishment, Villa Maria, charmingly and picturesquely situated on the Parramatta River, which had been kindly placed at their disposal by the Marist Fathers to hold the annual clerical retreat. Martin, Edward

Born on 2 October 1853 at Mullingar, Co Westmeath. He was educated at Mullingar seminary. Studied at All Hallows and in Rome at an unknown College. He was ordained priest on 31 March 1877 by Cardinal Monaco de Valletta in the Lateran Basilica, Rome. He is recorded as having been in the Armidale diocese between 1878 and 1880, but no details of postings are nown. The records then state that he went to the United States of America where he was parish priest of Clobede in Minneapolis. It seems he died in the USA on 6 May 1900 or 6 May 1903. Place of burial unknown.
