He was born in Haute-Loire, France in 1824. He was professed a Marist in 1850. He arrived in New Caledonia in 1855, aged 31. He was a great builder and went from one mission to another to help build many stations. At the age of 63, in 1887, he set out to help in the foundation of the mission in Vanuatu, working there for 3 years, founding the mission at Port Olry on Santo and participating in the foundation of the mission at Olal on Ambrym. In 1889 he returned exhausted to New Caledonia. He worked for a further 7 years in several stations: Belep, Mare and Mouli on Ouvea where he died aged 72.
