Biographical Notes

Funeral brochure, 2 June 2011:
Basil James Meaney was born in Brisbane on 27 April 1930. Basil was the eldest of four children born to James Aloysius Meaney and Margaret Mary Whelan. Fr Meaney is survived by his sister, Carmel Spierings, and brothers Fr Adrian Meaney MSC and Damien Meaney. He attended various schools, including Our Lady of Victories, Bowen Hills, Harrisville State School, Ss Peter & Paul, Bulimba, St Teresa's College, Abergowrie and Marist Brother Ashgrove/Tamborine. After school he became an electrician and worked for several years. His seminary education was at Pius XII Seminary, Banyo. Basil was ordained to the Priesthood on 29 June 1961 in St. Stephen's Cathedral. His brother, Adrian MSC, was also ordained in the same ceremony. He then served as an assistant priest in Sandgate [1961-1965], Inala [1966-1968], Nambour [1969-1971], and Moorooka [1972-1974]. In January 1975 he was appointed Parish Priest of St Kieran's Parish, Brighton. In July 1983 he became the Pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour Parish, Tewantin [Noosa Districts], a post he held for twenty years until his retirement in 2003. In retirement he resided at Bribie Island and often assisted the Caboolture Parish for Sunday Mass. After a brief illness, he died on Sunday evening 29 May 2011.
May he experience forever the joy and eternal peace of the Risen Lord.
