Fr Frank Cresp, Good and Faithful Servants: Recalling the Spirit of the Deceased Priests of the Diocese of Port Augusta and Port Pirie 1888-2008, 2008:
Nevin, Bernard

Born: November, 1839, in Roscommon, Ireland.
Ordained: 24/6/1869 at All Hallows College, Dublin.
After four years in Adelaide Bishop Reynolds appointed him, in his own words "with very poor prospects to the parochial care of Port Augusta. No residence of his own, no Church or Schoolroom throughout the entire district, and what was worse still a small population exceedingly poor, and widely scattered over a vast extent of country." His area included "all the mines and farming areas East and West of the Flinders Ranges as far as the Peake" and South to Yongala.
In 15 years he was responsible for building 11 stone Churches, two Presbyteries and three Convents, "the principal among them being the front portion of All Saints Cathedral." At the opening of that building the Bishop named him Archpriest and Vicar Forane.
He lived at various times in Port Augusta, Pekina and Peterborough from 1876-1884. He returned to Adelaide and was responsible for the building of St Patrick's Church in Grote St.
Died: 1/9/1920.
There is much more information in the diocesan History Centre at Peterborough. His was one of the three names submitted for choice as first Bishop of Port Augusta.
A true pioneer of the Diocese.
