Leahy, Thomas Alphonsus

Born 15 August 1905 in Tamworth. Educated in Tamworth and at De La Salle College Armidale. Studied at St Columba's College Springwood and St Patrick's College Manly. Ordained on 8 December 1929 in Armidale by Bishop P J O'Connor with Norman Tuttle. His first appointments were as assistant priest Inverell, Narrabri, then Moree, and again at Narrabri. He was appointed the first parish priest Ashford in 1938. He subsequently was Administrator at Quirindi (1941-1945). He became parish priest at Warialda, then Bingara (1952), then Barraba (1953), and was appointed to Gunnedah in 1958. While at Gunnedah he was appointed a Domestic Prelate (Monsignor). In 1967 he transferred to Manilla, where he remained until retirement to Nazareth House Tamworth in April 1975. He lived there until he died on 12 July 1981. He was buried in the Tamworth cemetery. His headstone incorrectly lists his date of death as 14 July 1981.
