Kevin O'Sullivan was a member of a famous Queensland legal family, the brother of Sir Neil O'Sullivan, and uncle of one time provincial of Australia, Patrick O'Sullivan. He was educated by the Christian Brothers at Nudgee, and first joined the Jesuit noviciate at Greenwich in 1921, but he did not last a week. Instead he joined the public service, became an associate of Justice McNaughton, was admitted as a solicitor in 1928, and practised at Warwick, Queensland. He built up an extensive practice, which required considerable travelling; so he became interested in aviation, and was founder and first president of the Warwick Aero Club. In 1927 he qualified as an Associate of the Federal Institute of Accountants, and later as a Chartered Accountant. He became a notary public in 1933. Then he decided to try the Society again, and entered, 16 September 1933. He studied philosophy at Loyola College, Watsonia, 1935-38, taught for a year at St Patrick's College, and did theology at Milltown Park, 1939-43. Tertianship followed at Rathfarnham, 1943-44. Before returning to Australia he spent a few years at St Walburge's, Preston, UK, doing parish work. He returned to Australia on the 'Akaroa', arriving in April 1945, and went to teach moral theology and canon law at Corpus Christi College, Werribee, where he remained until 1953. He professed the same subjects at Canisius College, Pymble, to the Jesuit scholastics, and was a very popular lecturer. He also taught pastoral and ascetical theology. He returned to Werribee in 1958, followed by parish ministry at Richmond, 1959-61. He went to Hobart in 1962 as director of Catholic television, and as spiritual director of the Catholic Family Movement. Later, he lived at St John Fisher College as minister and prefect of discipline. O'Sullivan was a very human moralist, giving liberal interpretations in most cases. He was a pleasant community man, understanding of the problems of others. He was particularly good in assisting with difficult marriage cases that needed to proceed to the Roman Rota. He worked with the Catholic Evidence Guild at the Yarra Bank and in the Sydney Domain; he spoke on the radio and appeared on television programmes. He was particularly good with people, attracting many. He loved company, and was a true Christian humanist. He understood the problems of people, and gave them a human solution.
