Campbell, The Priests of the Diocese of Armidale: A Necrology, Braddon ACT, 2005: From Banyena Victoria he studied at St Patrick's College, Manly for the diocese of Manila, Philippines with William Mullins, who was also a student for the same diocese. He was ordained on 30 November 1904 in St Mary's Cathedral Sydney by Cardinal Moran. After he took up duty in the Philippines he was placed in charge of a new American parish of Santa Mesa, under the jurisdiction of Archbishop Harty. He did not survive long in the climate, compelled to return to Australia owing to ill health, with malarial fever. He took up duty in the Armidale diocese, as also William Mullins, with his first appointment at the cathedral. He then served in Moree, at Inverell and Quirindi, and was appointed in July 1915 as the first
parish priest, Mungindi, where he remained until 1921. He then served in Tamworth, then Bingara, then again at the cathedral and Wee Waa. He died on 21 June 1954, place of death and place of burial unknown. (Reproduced by permission of Tom Campbell.) |
