Byrne, Gerald (Jun.), Irish
First Ordination by Dr. Carr in Melbourne

Gerald Junior was a nephew of Gerald Senior. All Hallows records show that he was born in Killaloe, County Clare, son of Patrick and Alicia nee Vaughan. He was educated at Tuohy's School, Killaloe, and at All Hallows from 1884 to 1888. He came out to Melbourne as a student and arrangements were made for him to continue studies at St. Charles' Bathurst. He had the honour of being the first priest ordained by Dr. Carr, after the latter's arrival in Melbourne, on 18.1.1891. The following is a list of Directory tracings: Castlemaine (CD 1892), Cathedral (1892), Collingwood (1898) (1900), Williamstown (1900) (1905), Pastor at Healesville (1905) (1910), Yea (1910-4), Lilydale (1914) (1925). He died on 13.7.1935 at the age of 73. Burial took place at the Priests' Mortuary Chapel in the Melbourne General Cemetery.
