Biographical Notes

Fr T.J. Linane, From Abel to Zundolovich, Vol. 1, 1979, p 32:

Brazil, Daniel, Very Rev., Irish, Golden Jubilarian
A Weighty Figure in the Mallee

b. Newport, Co. Tipp. 1872; ed. AH; ord. '98; arr. Melb. in Oct. Stationed at Ballarat, Inglewood, Creswick, Bungaree, Colac. Then 40 years in the Mallee region, commencing at Quambatook, going on to Sea Lake (CD 1910-16), and then to Swan Hill where he spent 32 years. Churches stand to his credit at Ultima, Nyah, Piangil. Sponsored the building of a Josephite Convent in Swan Hill itself in 1922, together with a new brick school in 1937. Parishioners came to greatly admire the smoker of the meerschaum and the gruff exterior. Behind it they could see the common sense and solidity of character. He became an invalid in his last years and died on 3 May 1950 at the age of 77. Two of his sisters were Religious stationed in Melb. suburbs.
