Flynn, Fr John Patrick. Passed away peacefully on May 31, 2015 Beloved son of the late Vincent and Ellen Flynn. Loved brother of Timothy, Patricia, Margaret, Mary, Vincent (all dec.) and Michael. Loved brother-in-law of Val. Loving uncle and great uncle of Tim, Danny, Anthony, Elizabeth, Isabel, Stephen, Michael, Sally, Ethan and Oliver. John dedicated his life to the missions and spent 33 years in the highlands of New Guinea. Rest in Peace. Please see later paper for Funeral details

Flynn, Mgr. John. Melbourne Overseas Missions pays tribute to the caring and selfless missionary service of Mgr. John Flynn. After serving in several Melbourne Parishes he was appointed as a missionary by Cardinal Knox to the parish of Hawabango, in the Gulf Province of Papua New Guinea, in 1975, where he established a church, school and airstrip . Later moving to be Parish Priest of Kanabea, he worked with the Kamea people in developing medical outposts and catechetical centres in remote regions of the mountains. In many instances, he was the first white person to be seen in the rugged Swanson District. Returning to Melbourne due to ill health, in 2007, after a short break, he served as Hospital Chaplain. Mgr. Flynn was much loved by all the Kamea people. May he rest in peace Melbourne Overseas Missions. Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne. secretary@mom.org.au

Flynn. Requiem Mass for the Repose of the Soul of Father John Patrick Flynn will be offered at St Fidelis' Church, Clarendon St, Moreland, on Thursday (June 11, 2015) commencing at 11.00 a.m. The Funeral will leave at the conclusion of Mass for Fawkner Memorial Park.
