The Rev. J. J. Garvey at Inverell, Armidale Express and New England General Advertiser, 14 December 1867, p 3, http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article187932570:

(From a Correspondent.) [...] Mr. J. J. Mann introduced a deputation of the Roman Catholic and other inhabitants of Inverell, who attended for the purpose of presenting the Rev. J.J. Garvey, of Tamworth, with a farewell address on his departure from our district.

[The lengthy address and reply which our correspondent has furnished we cannot (in accordance with a rule which we found it necessary to adopt some time ago) give in extenso in our news columns. But we can state that the address speaks in the highest terms of the rev. gentleman, whose intended departure is most deeply regretted. He is also requested to accept as a gift a silver tea service. The address is signed, on behalf of the Roman Catholic inhabitants of Inverell, by Messrs. Mulligan, Heffernan, Mann, Stout, and Walsh. The reply of the rev. gentleman enters fully upon the matters referred to in the address, expresses his acceptance of the gift and his thanks for it, and assures his flock of the regret with which he leaves them.—Eds. 'A-E.']
