Father Daniel Greene, former parish priest of Yass and Queanbeyan, and chaplain at HMAS Harman, died on March 5, in Ireland, aged 76.

Father Greene was born in Doon, County Cashel, in Ireland on June 4, 1900.

He was ordained in June, 1925, at Thurles in Ireland. He arrived in Australia in November, 1925, and took up his first appointment as assistant in Cootamundra parish in February, 1926. He worked in 15 parishes throughout the Archdiocese.

He was appointed Administrator of Queanbeyan parish in 1951 and transferred to Boorowa parish in 1952. He returned to Queanbeyan in January, 1955, as parish priest and that year was also appointed chaplain of HMAS Harman.

In March, 1969, he was appointed parish priest of Yass, where he remained for a year before retiring in 1970 to Mercy Hospital, Cootamundra.

He returned to Ireland in 1975.

A requiem Mass was held at St Raphael's Church, Queanbeyan, on Tuesday.
