Biographical Notes

Fr T.J. Linane, From Abel to Zundolovich, Vol. 1, 1979, p 33:

Brennan, Denis Aloysius, Very Rev., Irish
Lieutenant-Colonel in the Army

b. Co. Sligo 1875; ed. MH; ord. '99 for Elphin Dioc.; arr. Perth in same year. Adm. in Boulder City 1900-11; P.P. of Narrogin '11-'15. Joined A.I.F. in Feb. '15 and served on battle-field in France. Highly acclaimed as a Chaplain, the soldiers deeming him a hero. Rewarded with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. When the war was over "he was a mere shell of his former self, due to the hard life of the trenches" (Perth Catholic Record, 5.12.1940). Returned to his former parish at Narrogin, serving the period '19-'26. Served at South Perth '26-'31; Victoria Park '31-7; West Perth '37-'40, d. 3.9.1940; age 65. Burial: Karrakatta.
