Denis M. Long, Pioneer and Early Priests, Archdiocese of Brisbane, Deceased or retired by 1929, 2021, p 127:
Fr Patrick Bailey

Patrick Bailey was born in County Limerick about 1864. He was educated for the priesthood at St John's College Waterford where he was ordained in July 1891.

Accompanied by his classmates, Fathers James Power and Jeremiah Healy, leaving London on 9 October aboard the RMS Ormuz they arrived in Sydney on 23 November. The next day, on the coastal steamer Rodonda, they set out to arrive in Brisbane on 26 November.

In 1892 Fr Baily was appointed to Toowoomba where he spent seven years as curate to Fr Thomas O'Connell. When opening a new presbytery in Toowoomba in February 1928, Archbishop Duhig made reference to the great work of Fr Bailey in assisting Fr Thomas O'Connell in raising money for the beautiful St Patrick's church that was to soon become the Cathedral for the new diocese of Toowoomba.

Father Bailey was doing most of the work in Toowoomba even before Fr O'Connell was not able to continue as parish priest. Fr Denis Fouhy, administrator of St Stephen's Cathedral, was appointed parish priest of Toowoomba in 1899.

That year Fr Bailey was appointed to Stanthorpe as Fr Davadi, suffering from a brain tumour, had to be hospitalized. Fr Bailey cared for Stanthorpe from that time and was appointed priest-in-charge when Fr Davadi died in February, 1900. He relinquished his duty as parish priest of Stanthorpe due to failing health and died in Brisbane on 24 October 1907.

The Sydney Catholic papers carried reports of Fr Bailey's death.

The Archdiocese of Brisbane has lost a faithful pastor by the death of the Rev P Bailey, Adm. Stanthorpe parish, which occurred at St Bridget's Presbytery, Red Hill, Brisbane, on Tuesday, 29th ult. The cause of death was dropsy. Father Bailey was born in County Limerick 43 years ago. He received his ecclesiastical education at St John's College, Waterford, where he was ordained in 1891. Shortly after his ordination he migrated to Queensland, and very soon after his arrival was appointed assistant priest in Toowoomba, under the Rev T O'Connell, where he remained for five years. He then took charge of the parish for two years, and was instrumental in wiping off the debt (about £2000) on the church and presbytery; in addition several improvements were made at the convent. On the death of Father Davadi, Father Bailey took charge of the Stanthorpe parish, and it was through his efforts that a new presbytery was erected and various other improvements affected, a new school being also in hand. The body was brought to St Stephen's Cathedral, Brisbane.
On Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock a Solemn Office was chanted and Requiem Mass offered up for the repose of the soul of deceased. The celebrant of the Mass was the Rev J O'Leary; Deacon Rev T Kelleher; sub-deacon Rev W Lee; master of ceremonies Rev M Baldwin. There were present the Rev D Fouhy (Toowoomba), Rev J B Breen, Rev M O'Flynn , Rev B Byrne, Rev P Corrigan, Rev T O'Connell (Sandgate), Rev R Walsh, Rev F Dorrigan , Rev T G Hayes (Goodna), Rev J A Canali. His Grace the Archbishop presided, and gave the final absolution. After Mass the funeral moved to Nudgee Catholic Cemetery, where the interment took place. Rev Father Byrne officiated at the graveside and read the last prayers of the Church over the remains of the departed priest. May his soul rest in peace
