Biographical Notes

Prayer Calendar: Deceased Priests who have ministered the Catholic Faith throughout Toowoomba and districts, 1864–2025, Compiled by Annie Carrett, Diocesan Archivist, 2001, Updated by Gabrielle Saide, Diocesan Archivist, 2023:
Rev Thomas Vincent Keating, died 20 Feb 1941

Thomas Vincent Keating was born at "Fairview", Cabarlah, in 1889, the son of Thomas Keating and Catherine Donohue. There were eight children in the family: 5 boys and 3 girls. A brother, Edmund, also became a priest of the Brisbane Archdiocese and two sisters became Sisters of Mercy. He was educated by the Christian Brothers in Toowoomba. Seminary studies were undertaken at St Patrick's College, Manly, and on their completion he was ordained by Archbishop Duhig on 8th December 1914, in St Stephen's Cathedral, Brisbane. From the time of his ordination he suffered from a back complaint known as Spondilitis Deformans but, while this was a heavy cross to bear, it did not prevent him from carrying out his priestly ministry. He was to serve in the following places: Assistant Priest, Roma (1919-1920); Allora, Warwick; Bulimba; Parish Priest Goodna (1924-1941). He died at the Mater Hospital, Brisbane aged 52, as a result of a heart attack, and was buried in the Nudgee Cemetery.
