Fr T.J. Linane, From Abel to Zundolovich, Vol. 2: Biographies of Priests on the Australian Scene up to 1900, 1980, p 108:

Croke, William James, Irish
Mention is made of this particular Croke because he turns up briefly as a visitor to Queensland in the early 1900's. Life details are meagre. Born in 1873 and ordained on 21 June 1896. He arrived in Auckland in that year and served for a brief period at the Cathedral. From 1897 to 1901 he was stationed at the Waipa - Kihikihi Mission. The Directories of 1902 and 1904 place him in the Rockhampton Diocese, serving under Dr. Joseph Higgins. The change from New Zealand to Queensland probably suggests the same old vain pursuit of trying to shake off a T.B. condition. Further information points to his going to the U.S.A. where he died on 8 June 1903. Possibly the correct year is 1905.
