Obituary: Fr Michael Brady, Catholic Leader, Brisbane, 3 October 1982, p 4:

Fr Michael Brady, who was killed instantly when his car left the highway near Townsville, had developed a love for the elderly and a desire to care for the sick during 20 years as a missionary in India.

Bishop Leonard Faulkner of Townsville said this was evident in Fr Brady's work in north Queensland.

He had been driving to Giru to celebrate morning Mass at Villa McAuley Retirement Village when the accident happened.

Bishop Faulkner said Fr Brady, 69, had said he was prepared to continue serving in Townsville diocese and would be much missed by the many people he had helped and counselled.

Formerly a Jesuit, Fr Brady served as a missionary in India for more than 20 years, before he returned to Australia for health reasons. He had an artificial leg as a result of a motorcycle accident in India about 15 years ago.

He came to the Townsville diocese in February, 1974, and served in the parish of Giru (1974-1978), Collinsville for part of 1979 and in Mundingburra from January 1980 until his death.

At Mundingburra, he helped out each week in the Giru/Woodstock district, as well as maintaining a keen interest in the sick and elderly residents of Villa Vincent and Villa McAuley.

His funeral was held in Most Holy Trinity Church, Mundingburra, where 650 people attended. Bishop Faulkner preached the homily and was chief celebrant at the Requiem Mass. It was concelebrated by 31 priests, including four Jesuits - Frs John Drury, Peter Green, Pat Mullins and Brian McCoy.

Fr Brady's brother, Mr Kevin Brady, his sister, Sr Monica, four other sisters and a niece from Brisbane and Victoria attended his funeral.
