Walsh, Rev Monsignor Brian PE OBE
Monsignor Brian Walsh died peacefully on Feb. 26, 2015 at Justin Villa, Balwyn North, aged 86 years and in the sixty first year of his priesthood. Following ordination in 1956, he served as Assistant Priest at St Mary's, Geelong (1956), Sunshine (1957) and Elsternwick (1963). In 1970 he was appointed as Executive Director of the National Office of the Eucharistic Congress held in 1973. He was appointed a Prelate of Honour to the Holy Father for his dedicated Service to the Church. This, too, was recognised in his award as Officer of the Order of British Empire the same year. In 1974 he was appointed Parish Priest of St Mary's, Dandenong. In 1985 he was appointed as National Director of the Papal visit of Pope John Paul II (1986). In 1988 he was appointed to Our Lady of Victories, Camberwell as Parish Priest, retiring in 2004. He will be remembered for his energetic and faithful priestly service, organisational and pastoral entrepreneurial skills, shared so generously among the bishops, priests, religious and lay people of Melbourne and the Catholic Church in many countries of the world. Walsh. Pontifical Requiem Mass for the repose of the soul of Monsignor Brian Walsh P.E O.B.E will be offered at The Basilica of Our Lady of Victories Church, 548 Burke Road, Camberwell on Thursday (Mar. 5, 2015) commencing at 11.00 a.m. Burial will take place in the Priest Crypt, Melbourne General Cemetery, College Cres., Parkville. Vigil Mass will be offered at The Basilica of Our Lady of Victories, on Wednesday evening (Mar. 4, 2015) at 7.30 p.m.

It is with much sadness that we hear of Mons Brian's passing. He attended St. Bede's from 1939-1947 and was college captain in both 1946 and 1947. He was inducted into the St. Bede's Hall of Fame in 2012. Our sincere condolences to his family. May he rest in peace.
