Reverend M.L. Gleeson. A Dedication, Manly: pro Deo et Ecclesia, 1963, p 85:

Fifty years—and between them such hopes and fears, joys and sorrows, triumphs and failures as are milestones of every life; between them, too, such tasks and burdens, consolations and achievements as come to all persons whose profession is devoted to the service of others; and, most of all, between them, and the thread that has sustained their uniform purpose, the wonderful privilege and the dread responsibility of serving directly as the deputy of God.

Such have been the fifty years that have led to this Golden Jubilee. To their revered Pastor, who has trod the path of these years with devotion and distinction, the Catholic Community of Mortlake and district dedicate this occasion as an expression of their appreciation and affection.

Reverend Father Martin Louis Gleeson was ordained to the priesthood on the 17th December, 1910, and has served the fifty years of his ministry in the Ballarat Diocese. For the past sixteen years he has been parish priest at Mortlake, having previously guided the parishes of Donald, Forrest and Landsborough. His practical outlook on his ministry has found magnificent expression in Mortlake, where, holding back the tide of advancing years, he has worked with tremendous zeal and energy to provide an educational centre of which the whole community may be proud. In the exercise of his pastorate he has exhibited a firm and decisive mind, a kindly and sympathetic heart and an intense loyalty to those in his charge.

We rejoice with our Jubilarian on this wonderful occasion; we offer our thanks to this great priest for his ministrations in our midst; and we pray that he may have many years more to continue his zealous and self-sacrificing labours.
